Mountain safety and Salvamont
Salvamont Brașov answers on 0725 826 668, or through 112. Tâmpa, Postăvarul and Piatra Craiului are real mountains: start early, come down before dark, dress for winter from October.

The local Salvamont service is based in Poiana Brașov and is the authorised rescue team for the Postăvarul massif.
Before you set off
- Check the weather the evening before and the morning of — see the weather page. Conditions at 1,700 m bear little relation to those in Piața Sfatului.
- Start early. Short winter days and afternoon thunderstorms in summer catch people out.
- Stay on marked paths; the colour-coded markings are good.
- Carry water, a warm layer, a charged phone and a head torch. From October to April, assume snow or ice above Poiana.
- Tell someone your route and when you expect to be back.
Skiing
On the pistes, ski within your level and within the marked runs; off-piste on Postăvarul carries avalanche risk. A fall or collision is exactly what the Salvamont posts on the domain are for — call the dispatch number or 112. Check that your travel insurance covers winter sports.
Tâmpa
The easiest summit in Romania to underestimate: 960 m, a cable car, a city at its feet — and a protected forest with bears in it. Walk up in daylight and come down before dark. See bears and wildlife.
