Anniversary of the 15 November 1987 revolt

On 15 November 1987 workers from the Steagul Roșu and Tractorul factories marched on the Communist Party headquarters — one of the largest open revolts against the communist regime before 1989. The anniversary is marked in the city each year; check local announcements for the programme.

The city's free New Year's Eve party in the middle of the Christmas market. In 2025/26: a concert, DJ sets, a laser show instead of fireworks and public transport until 01:30. The 2026/27 line-up has not been announced.

Junii Parade (Parada Junilor)

Brașov's oldest custom, first documented in 1728: seven groups of Junii ride in costume from Piața Unirii in Șchei, through the old town and Piața Sfatului, to Pietrele lui Solomon. It is held on St Thomas's Sunday, the first Sunday after Orthodox Easter — 9 May 2027. Starts at 11:00; free.

Drumul Poienii
Motorsport hillclimb on the road up to Poiana Brașov — 30–31 May in 2026. Bus 20 to Poiana is suspended while the road is closed; plan around it.

The fixed points of the Brașov year
Whatever is or is not listed above, these come round every year and are worth planning a trip around.
- Winter — the Christmas market in Piața Sfatului (27 November 2026 – 3 January 2027) and the free New Year's Eve party in the same square. Up in Poiana Brașov the ski season usually opens around mid-December, snow permitting, and runs into March.
- Spring — the Brașov Rally traditionally opens the national championship in March. The Junii parade, the city's oldest custom, rides from Șchei through the old town on the first Sunday after Orthodox Easter — 9 May 2027 — with the Brașov Days festival around it. May also brings the European Film Festival, the Night of Museums and the hillclimb on the road to Poiana.
- Summer — Rockstadt Extreme Fest, now in Ghimbav, at the end of July; the Sighișoara Medieval Festival the same week; the Teutonic Fest at the fortified church of Hărman in early August; the Jazz & Blues Festival in Piața Sfântul Ioan in mid-August; and Oktoberfest Brașov from late August into early September.
- Autumn — the Harvest Days and the Alpin Film Festival in September, a general fair in Piața Sfatului in October, and Halloween at Bran Castle (24–30 October and 1 November 2026). On 15 November the city remembers the 1987 workers' revolt.
Two things you may read about elsewhere are not on this list: the Cerbul de Aur song festival has not been held since 2019, and there is no "Brașov International Film Festival". For the castles' own closures — Peleș and Pelișor are both shut for part of autumn 2026 — see our castles guide.
