Three different evenings
Everything below is filed under "pubs", but it is not all the same night out, and knowing which is which saves one.
The old-town pub. Dark wood, football on a screen, a menu that runs to burgers and ciorbă. O'Peter's Irish Pub and Brauhaus Czell are the busy, dependable ones inside the walls; Berăria Mustață is the Romanian-beer-hall version.
The craft taproom. Romania's craft scene has grown fast, and Brașov's taprooms are where to taste it — Tipografia and Opus 9 in the Old Town, Propaganda out in Bartolomeu. Ask for a tasting flight if the board means nothing to you.
The wine bar. This is where Brașov has improved most. Terroirs Boutique du Vin, Pilvax on Strada După Ziduri and Ma Cocotte pour Romanian wine by the glass and will let you taste before you choose.
What to order
In a wine bar, start Romanian: Fetească Neagră or Băbească Neagră among the reds, Fetească Albă, Fetească Regală or Tămâioasă Românească among the whites. In a pub, a local lager is the default; a domestic draught beer costs around 15 lei for half a litre in the city (Numbeo, September 2026).
The practical bits
Tipping is voluntary and must appear on the fiscal receipt — the bill usually offers 0–15%, and 10% is normal. Terraces open from spring to autumn; in winter the Old Town moves indoors, and the cellars under the old merchant houses come into their own. For cocktails and late nights, see nightlife.
