Specialty coffee
Brașov's specialty scene is small but real, and most of it sits within a few streets of the Black Church. CH9 Specialty Coffee, on Curtea Johannes Honterus right beside the church, is the reference point. Several local roasters supply the city's better cafés, so a filter here is often roasted a few kilometres away. A cappuccino costs around 17 lei in the city (Numbeo, September 2026) — more on Piața Sfatului, less in the neighbourhoods.
The cofetărie
The Romanian patisserie is a different ritual: a glass counter, cakes by the slice, a coffee on the side and no hurry. Cofetăria Saray on Strada Republicii is the busy, dependable one. Order papanași where they fry them to order, or a slice of the house cake; in winter, a hot chocolate is not a concession.
Street sweets
The kürtős — chimney cake, rolled in sugar, cinnamon or walnuts — is sold from stalls in the Old Town and at the Christmas market on Piața Sfatului.
