Opening date: not announced yet
Opening typically falls between late November and early January, depending on how many nights drop below −4 °C for the snow cannons (2024/25 had 39). Closing is typically at the end of March. There is no official 2026/27 opening date yet; some aggregators estimate 19 December 2026 — treat that as a guess.
These are last season's (2025/26) prices, approved by Brașov Local Council. The 2026/27 prices have not been announced yet — they are usually approved at the end of October (the 2025/26 grid came out on 31 October 2025, about 9% up on the season before). Child = 6–12 years.

EYOF 2027 — alpine skiing in Poiana
Brașov hosts the winter European Youth Olympic Festival from 14 to 21 February 2027, with around 50 countries expected. Alpine skiing is held in Poiana Brașov; other venues include Brașov, Râșnov, Predeal, Sfântu Gheorghe, Târgu Secuiesc, the Cheile Grădiștei base and Cârța. Expect some pistes to be reserved for races and training that week, and book accommodation early.

Peak (2025/26): 6–31 December and 20 January–20 February every day, plus Friday to Sunday the rest of the season.
Off-peak (2025/26): Monday to Thursday on 1–15 January and 23 February–19 March; every day from 2 March.
Example: on the 120-point card (5 lei a point), a gondola ride at peak = 6 points = 30 lei.

Beginners
Start on Stadion (magic carpet, almost flat), move to Bradul once you can stop, then ride the Lupului chair for your first real run on Lower Lupului. Stay off the cable cars until you are comfortable on Bradul at speed: the only easy way down from the top is Drumul Roșu, 4.7 km long and narrow.

Intermediates
Your first top-to-bottom is Drumul Roșu; the real goal is Sulinar, the classic red. Ski them early, when the snow is still soft and the pistes empty, and use the Ruia draglift to lap the upper part instead of queuing for the gondola.
🎟 A day pass pays off from about eight gondola rides at peak (8 × 30 lei on the 120-point card = 240 lei).
Advanced skiers
Lupului for length, Subteleferic for a sustained FIS pitch under the cable cars, Kanzel for altitude and Ruia for a short, steep burst. First lift, straight to the top: by early afternoon on a weekend the blacks are hard and scraped. The Ruia chair is your best friend — six seats, 2,400 people an hour, no need to go back down.

Drumul Roșu — Not floodlit. Uphill ski touring is allowed in the evening until 22:00 (enter from Bradul or by the Rossignol pub; reflective kit and red lights required).
Bradul — The only piste with fixed floodlighting; the draglift runs until 18:00.
Lupului inferior — Floodlit on Friday and Saturday evenings in 2025/26, when conditions allowed (Agerpres). Not confirmed for 2026/27.
Most ski schools in Poiana also rent gear. A full beginner or intermediate set (skis, boots, poles) typically cost around 100–150 lei a day in 2025/26; a helmet is often extra, and race or premium skis cost more. Book ahead for the Christmas–New Year week and February weekends, try the boots on properly, and check the edges have been sharpened — Poiana's snow is mostly man-made and firm.
Poiana has several ski schools, some with internationally certified (ISIA) instructors. As a guide, one school's 2024/25 prices were about 170–190 lei per person for a one-hour lesson in peak season, less in off-peak and in groups — lift pass and gear not included. For children, a morning group course plus afternoons on Bradul works best. Ask whether the instructor holds a Romanian licence, and book the Christmas and February holiday weeks well in advance.
Emergency: 112. Salvamont Brașov dispatch: 0725 826 668 — save it before you go up. Salvamont has a post near the top of the gondola and its base at Str. Poiana Doamnei 20B. Helmets are strongly recommended (and sensible for every child). Off-piste skiing on Postăvaru is outside the patrolled area; fog and wind reach the top first, so turn back early when visibility drops.

Bradul and Stadion opened on 30 December on about 5 cm of natural snow; official opening 2 January. Weekends saw 20,000–30,000 lift passages a day. It closed with nearly 1 m of snow up top — City Hall said it was too soft to groom; hoteliers petitioned for an Easter reopening, without result.

An early start: Lupului, Drumul Roșu, Kanzel and Doamnei up top, Bradul and Stadion below. Prices rose about 17% as VAT on cable transport went from 5% to 19%.
City Hall is buying 14 new snow guns for EYOF 2027 — 3,045,079 lei before VAT, from the government's 20-million-lei EYOF programme (Brașov's share: 4.6 million). Bids closed on 16 September 2026; delivery is due within three months of signing. They work from −2.5 °C.
The Postăvaru/Ruia snowmaking reservoir, built in 2011, is to grow by 50,000 m³ (the design work alone costs 255,000 lei). Today water is pumped from the city network. The existing system — 120 lances, 34 mobile and 12 fixed cannons — produced 445,000 m³ of snow in 2024/25.
The operator is the same as in 2025/26: City Hall runs the pistes and its lifts, Ana Teleferic the two cable cars. The large 2021 expansion plan (a gondola from Cheișoara, new chairlifts, about 30 km of pistes) remains a plan — we found no sign of construction.
From Piața Sfatului to the gondola base is 12.2 km, about 21 minutes without traffic, up Strada Warthe and Drumul Poienii past Poiana Mică. On winter weekends it takes noticeably longer, and the last hairpins need winter tyres when it snows.
Livada Poștei ↔ Poiana Brașov. From Livada Poștei every 20 minutes between 07:00 and 18:40 (from 06:00 on weekdays, 06:30 at weekends), then every 30 minutes until 23:30; extra runs are added when it is busy. A single ticket is 5 lei for 90 minutes, a day ticket 20 lei; pay contactless on board or with 24pay. Transport is free on Fridays. Timetable valid from 5 June 2026.
In 2025/26, line 100 ran from the railway station straight to the Poiana cable cars (from the station at 09:15, 10:45, 12:15, 15:45 and 17:15), and line 60 shuttled every 35 minutes from Silver Mountain via the Poiana Mică car park to the cable cars (first run 08:30, last 19:55 from the cable cars). Both stop when the season ends; the 2026/27 timetables will be published by RATBV at opening.
Public car parks in Poiana currently cost 3 lei an hour or 24 lei a day, paid 08:00–20:00, free on Sundays. A proposal under public consultation until 9 October 2026 would raise this to 5 lei/hour on weekdays and 10 lei/hour at weekends, 08:00–22:00 every day — not approved at the time of writing. The multi-storey Poiana Mică car park (434 spaces) is the calm alternative: its parking ticket rides line 60 to the cable cars for free.

Râșnov's Valea Cărbunării is Romania's Olympic ski-jumping complex and an EYOF 2027 venue — free to look at in daylight, but not an alpine ski area with a lift pass.
There is no official date yet. Over the last three seasons Poiana opened on 30 November 2023, 18 December 2024 and 30 December 2025 (official opening 2 January 2026), so expect late November to early January, depending on cold nights for snowmaking. Some aggregators estimate 19 December 2026 — a guess, not an announcement.
In 2025/26 a one-day pass cost 240 lei for adults and 140 lei for children aged 6–12; a 6-day pass was 900 / 480 lei and a season pass 5,500 / 3,300 lei. The 2026/27 prices have not been announced; City Hall usually approves them at the end of October. Children under 6 ride free with a family member.
Beginners should buy a points card: the Stadion draglift costs 1 point and Bradul 2. On the 120-point card (600 lei, 5 lei a point) a gondola ride at peak is 6 points, or 30 lei — so a day pass (240 lei) pays off for anyone doing more than about eight top-to-bottom runs, and for most intermediates on a full day.
Seven officially approved pistes — Drumul Roșu, Sulinar, Lupului, Subteleferic, Kanzel, Bradul and Stadion — about 24 km in total by City Hall's count, plus linked variants known as Ruia, Doamnei and Lower Lupului. The ski area runs from about 1,010 m to 1,775 m.
Bradul is the only piste with fixed floodlights, and its draglift runs until 18:00. In 2025/26 Lower Lupului was also floodlit on Friday and Saturday evenings when conditions allowed. No separate night price was published.
RATBV bus 20 runs all year from Livada Poștei in Brașov every 20 minutes in the daytime (5 lei per 90-minute ticket). In the ski season, line 100 runs from the railway station straight to the cable cars and line 60 shuttles from the Poiana Mică park & ride; the 2026/27 timetables are published at opening.
Yes — Stadion (with a magic carpet) and Bradul are wide, gentle and in the middle of the resort, and Lower Lupului is a natural next step. The one catch: the only easy way down from the top is Drumul Roșu, 4.7 km long and narrow, so wait until you are confident before taking the cable cars.
