Getting to Poiana Brașov: Bus 20, Winter Lines, Car, Parking and Taxis

The short version

Poiana Brașov is 12.2 km from Piața Sfatului by road, about 21 minutes without traffic, climbing from the city at around 600 m to the resort at about 1,020 m. There are four ways up: the year-round bus 20, the seasonal winter lines 60 and 100, your own car, or a taxi or ride-hailing car. On winter weekends the bus is often the smartest option, because the road and the car parks at the top are where the day gets lost.

Bus 20: Livada Poștei – Poiana Brașov

RATBV line 20 runs all year between Livada Poștei, on the edge of the old town by the Livada Poștei park, and Poiana Brașov. The stops on the way are Bellevue Residence, Warte, Dealul Spirii, Piscului, După Iniște, Braniște, Poiana Mică and Poiana Brașov.

On the timetable valid from 5 June 2026:

• Monday to Friday: 06:00 and 06:30, then every 20 minutes (on the hour, :20 and :40) from 07:00 to 18:40, then every 30 minutes from 19:00 to 23:30.
• Saturday and Sunday: from 06:30, then every 20 minutes from 07:00 to 18:40 and every 30 minutes until 23:30.
• RATBV adds extra runs "according to passenger flow" — in practice, on busy ski mornings.

With skis, travel early. The 08:00–09:30 buses on a Saturday in January fill up fast, and boarding with skis is easier from the first stop at Livada Poștei than halfway up.

What it costs

A single urban ticket costs 5 lei and is valid for 90 minutes on all urban lines, including Poiana Brașov (RATBV fares valid since 1 May 2025, checked September 2026). A day ticket is 20 lei, three days 50 lei and seven days 90 lei. Pay with a contactless bank card at the validators on board, with the 24pay app, or with a ticket from a kiosk or machine; payment by SMS has been discontinued.

The best news: since 3 April 2026 public transport in the city is free every Friday ("Vinerea Verde"), and that includes the Poiana line.

Winter lines 60 and 100 (2025/26)

For the ski season, RATBV added two seasonal lines last winter. They were suspended at the end of the season, and the 2026/27 schedule has not yet been announced; expect something similar.

• Line 100, Brașov railway station – Telecabine Poiana: from 2 January 2026. Departures from the station at 09:15, 10:45, 12:15, 15:45 and 17:15; from the cable cars at 10:00, 11:30, 13:00, 16:30 and 18:00. Useful if you arrive by train.
• Line 60, Silver Mountain – Poiana Mică – Poiana Brașov – Telecabine: from 30 December 2025, every 35 minutes, from 08:30 at Silver Mountain until 19:55 from the cable cars. It links the Poiana Mică park-and-ride with the lift stations, and was free with a parking ticket from that car park.

By car

The road leaves the city on Strada Warthe and climbs Drumul Poienii through the forest, past Poiana Mică, in a series of long bends and several hairpins. It is well maintained and cleared, but in winter it deserves respect:

• Winter tyres are compulsory in Romania whenever the road is covered in snow, ice or frost — which, on this road, means most of the winter. Carry chains as well.
• Leave early. On Saturdays and Sundays in high season the queue into the resort can back up from the car parks; arriving before 08:30 makes the difference.
• Coming down after 16:00 everyone leaves at once; an early dinner in Poiana and a later drive is calmer.
• Watch for wildlife. Bears are occasionally seen on the edges of Poiana and on the forest road; never stop to feed or photograph them from outside the car.

Parking: now, and what may change

Currently the public car parks in Poiana charge 3 lei an hour or 24 lei a day, between 08:00 and 20:00, and Sundays are free (as reported in September 2026). There are paid car parks near the gondola and by the Teleferic Grand Hotel.

A proposal in public consultation until 9 October 2026 would move Poiana into the city's new "Zone 0": 5 lei an hour on weekdays and 10 lei an hour at weekends, charged every day from 08:00 to 22:00, with fines of 500–1,500 lei. It is not approved; we will update this page when the council decides.

The alternative is the Poiana Mică multi-storey park-and-ride, about 434 spaces a few kilometres below the resort, where a daytime rate of 5 lei an hour has been reported. With a parking ticket there, the winter line 60 took you to the lifts free of charge in 2025/26.

Taxi and ride-hailing

Both Uber and Bolt operate in Brașov, and Uber has offered fixed "uberSKI" fares to Poiana. City taxis are metered; there is no official fixed fare to the resort, and crowd-sourced data put the per-kilometre rate at around 3 lei (checked September 2026). At the end of a ski day, demand at the top is high — book ahead or take the bus.

Arriving from the airports

• Brașov-Ghimbav (GHV), about 15 km from the city, is served only by Wizz Air, which bases an aircraft here from December 2026 and adds winter routes to Barcelona, Madrid, Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden, Chișinău and Valencia. • Bucharest Otopeni (OTP) is about 170 km and roughly three hours away via the Prahova Valley, much longer on winter weekends. Shuttles run frequently, or take the train from Bucharest to Brașov. See getting here.
