Choose the base before the hotel
The Old Town is right for a first visit without skis: everything is a walk, the restaurants are outside the door, and day trips leave from here. Bella Muzica on Piața Sfatului is in a 16th-century house; Casa Wagner is the small boutique choice; the Aro Palace, the city's grand 1939 hotel, is being renovated to reopen as a Hyatt Regency in 2027 — check what is open before you book.
Coresi and the station side is where the newer design hotels are: Kronwell and Qosmo, both newly selected in the Michelin Guide's hotel list in 2026. You trade a ten-minute taxi for bigger rooms and more calm.
Poiana Brașov is where to sleep if skiing is the point. Teleferic Grand Hotel is a few minutes' walk from the Kanzel cable car; Ana Hotels Sport and Alpin Resort are the other big names. Book Christmas, New Year and February weekends early.
Bran, Moeciu and the villages are guesthouse country — quieter, often cheaper, with mountain views, but you need a car in the evening.

Old Town for sightseeing and restaurants; Poiana if you are skiing most days. Bus 20 links the two in about half an hour, so a city base with a ski day or two works too.

As early as you can for Christmas, New Year and February weekends, when Poiana fills first. January weekdays are the easiest and often the cheapest.
