Build a Brașov itinerary
Tell it how long you have, when you are coming and what you came for — the Old Town, castles, skiing, bears, food. It builds a day-by-day plan that gives each day one area — the walled town and Șchei, Poiana and Postăvarul, Bran and Râșnov, Peleș and the Prahova valley, or the Saxon fortified churches — which is the difference between a good day in Transylvania and a day spent on the road.
Each day stays in one area on purpose. The Old Town is walkable, but Poiana, Bran and Râșnov, Peleș and the Saxon churches each sit in a different direction, 12 to 120 km out — and doing two of them in one day is the easiest way to spend it in traffic on DN1. Ski blocks appear only in the snow season; Poiana in summer is walks and the gondola.

The Black Church and Piața Sfatului
The largest Gothic church in the region, blackened by the fire of 1689, with its Anatolian carpets and the 4,000-pipe Buchholz organ. It opens at 10:00 Tuesday to Saturday, at noon on Sundays and Mondays; then step out into the square in front of the Council House.

Up Tâmpa by cable car
The cable car from Aleea Tiberiu Brediceanu lifts you to the 960 m summit and the BRAȘOV letters in a few minutes; the whole Old Town and the Bârsa plain are below. Walk down through the forest in about an hour if your knees allow. On Mondays it opens at noon.

Ciorbă in a bread bowl, sarmale with polenta and sour cream, papanași to finish — in one of the cellar restaurants of the Old Town. Book at weekends.

Bran Castle, at opening time
Under an hour by car. The castle sold to the world as Dracula's was in fact a customs fortress and later Queen Marie's home — the royal rooms are the real interest. Be there at 9:00 (noon on Mondays); by late morning the stairs are nose to tail.

Râșnov citadel
The peasant citadel on its hill above the town, on the way back from Bran. The main citadel is under restoration until about 2027; the garden and Báthory tower are open, and the ticket is card-only.

Mostly Sinaia & the Prahova valley · 6 h of activity

Peleș Castle, Sinaia
King Carol I's neo-Renaissance palace in the forest above Sinaia — the finest interiors in Romania. About an hour by train or car down the Prahova valley. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays (and 2 November – 1 December 2026); entry is by timed slot, so arrive early.

Pelișor and Sinaia Monastery
Queen Marie's Art Nouveau Pelișor a few minutes' walk from Peleș (closed 28 September – 3 November 2026), then down through the park to the 17th-century monastery that gave the town its name.
