Every figure below is in lei and carries the day it was checked and a link to whoever publishes it — RATBV, the castles, the ski domain, the city. Where two official sources disagree, we say so. Market prices — a meal, a beer, a coffee — are marked as indicative, because no one publishes them in a form anyone can check.

The tourist tax on your hotel bill

From 2026, hotels and guesthouses in Brașov and Poiana Brașov charge a fixed 12 lei per person per night — 7 lei promotion tax and 5 lei for Salvamont, the mountain rescue service. It is not a percentage of the room rate, and booking sites do not always include it in the price they show, so expect it on the final bill.

Questions about money

How much is a bus ticket in Brașov in 2026?

A single urban ride is 5 lei and valid for 90 minutes on every line, including Poiana Brașov. The Urban Pass is 20 lei for one day, 50 lei for three and 90 lei for seven. City transport is free on Fridays. Checked on 23 September 2026 on the RATBV site.

How much does the Black Church cost?

30 lei for adults, 25 lei for retirees and university students, 20 lei for pupils under 18; children under 7 enter free. The 15 lei figure still found on blogs is out of date.

How much is a ski pass in Poiana Brașov?

In the 2025/26 season a one-day pass was 240 lei for adults and 140 lei for children aged 6–12, and a 4-hour pass 180 lei. The 2026/27 tariffs were not yet published in September 2026; they are usually approved in late October.

Is Brașov expensive?

Not by Western European standards. A meal at an inexpensive restaurant is around 55 lei (about €11) and a local beer around 15 lei, according to crowd-sourced figures from September 2026. The luxury hotels and fine dining in the Old Town cost considerably more.

Should I pay in lei or in euros?

Always in lei. Romania does not use the euro, and when a card terminal or cash machine offers to charge you in euros, pounds or dollars, decline: that conversion rate is set by the machine's operator and is the worst one available.
