Things to do in Brașov

Start inside the walls

Brașov's Old Town is small enough to walk in a morning and good enough to fill two days. The Black Church is the reason to come: built 1383–1477, blackened by the great fire of 1689, with what is often described as the largest collection of Anatolian carpets outside Istanbul hanging from its galleries and a Buchholz organ from 1839. Adults pay 30 lei (checked September 2026). From there, Strada Sforii — 80 m long and barely over a metre wide — Catherine's Gate of 1559, and the walk along the walls past the Weavers' Bastion and the White Tower give you the shape of the medieval town.

Then go up

The Tâmpa cable car reopened in October 2025 and runs until 23:00: 30 lei one way, 45 lei return. Walk down instead of riding both ways — the path through the beech forest takes under an hour. Across town, Șchei keeps the Romanian side of the story: the Church of St Nicholas and the First Romanian School, visitable only with a guide.

The castles

One castle a day is plenty. Bran is the famous one and the busiest — go at opening. Râșnov is under restoration until about 2027, with the garden and Báthory tower open. Peleș in Sinaia is the most beautiful interior in Romania and is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, and from 2 November to 1 December 2026. The quieter choice is the UNESCO-listed fortified church at Prejmer. The castles page compares them honestly.

A museum ticket worth knowing

The county's single museum ticket — 25 lei for adults, valid 15 days, sold at the museum desks — covers the Art Museum, the Ethnography Museum, the Urban Civilisation Museum, Casa Mureșenilor and the History Museum sections including the Council House and the Weavers' Bastion.
