Aleea de sub Tâmpa

Aleea de sub Tâmpa is the shaded promenade that runs along the foot of Tâmpa, between the mountain's forest and the outer face of the city walls. It is Brașov's favourite easy walk: flat, free, open at all hours and never more than a few minutes from the Old Town.

Along the way you pass the south-eastern stretch of the fortifications — the Weavers' Bastion and the Blacksmiths' and Ropemakers' bastions — with the trees of Tâmpa climbing steeply on the other side. The lower station of the Tâmpa cable car is on the promenade, and so are the trailheads of the paths to the summit.

Come in the morning for joggers and dog-walkers, in autumn for the colour of the beech forest, or on a summer evening when it is the coolest place in town. It links neatly with a loop through Poarta Ecaterinei and back to Piața Sfatului. The only warning: this is the forest edge, and bears have been seen here at night.
