Turnul Alb

The White Tower — Weißer Turm — is the semicircular watchtower on the slope above the western walls. From the path beside it you get one of the best free views in Brașov: the whole grid of the Old Town, the Black Church in the middle and Tâmpa behind.

The way up starts next to the Graft Bastion, where a long staircase — about 250 steps, by the usual count — climbs through the trees. It is short but steep; take it slowly in summer. From the top a path continues along the hillside to the Black Tower, and you can come back down along Strada După Ziduri, the lane that follows the outside of the walls.

The towers' interiors are not regularly open, and the Graft Bastion has been reported closed for rehabilitation, so this is an outdoor visit. It is free, and best in the late afternoon, when the sun lights the Old Town and Tâmpa.
