Piața Sfatului — the Marktplatz of the Saxon city — has been Brașov's main square for as long as there has been a Brașov. It was the market, the place of judgement and the place of celebration, and it is still where the city gathers: for the Christmas market (27 November 2026 – 3 January 2027), for New Year's Eve, for the Junii parade in spring and for the summer festivals.

In the middle stands the Council House, the old town hall, now the County History Museum and home of the tourist information centre (open daily 09:00–17:00). Around the edges are the merchants' houses, with Casa Mureșenilor at number 25 and the Museum of Urban Civilisation at number 15, the Orthodox church of the Dormition set back in a courtyard, and terraces on almost every side. The tower of the Black Church rises behind the south-west corner, and Tâmpa, with its white BRAȘOV letters, fills the view to the east.

The square is free and open at all hours. Come early in the morning to see it empty, or after dark when the buildings are lit and the terraces are full.
