When to visit Brașov
Winter for Poiana and the Christmas market, May for the Junii and the green hills, September for warm days without the crowds. July and August are warm, busy and stormy in the afternoons.
Winter (December – March)
Cold and, in a good year, white: average January highs are around 2 °C and lows around −6 °C. The ski season in Poiana Brașov usually opens between late November and early January, depending on the cold, and runs to late March. The Christmas market fills Piața Sfatului from 27 November 2026 to 3 January 2027. In February 2027 Poiana hosts the alpine skiing of the European Youth Olympic Festival (14–21 February).
Spring (April – May)
Changeable, green and lovely. Orthodox Easter is the great festival; in 2027 it falls on 2 May, and on the following Sunday, 9 May 2027, the Junii ride through Șchei and the Old Town — Brașov's most distinctive day of the year. Book early for that weekend.
Summer (June – August)
The warmest months, with highs in the mid-20s °C and the wettest weather of the year, mostly as afternoon thunderstorms. Good for Tâmpa, Piatra Craiului and the castles, but Bran and Peleș are at their busiest; go early.
Autumn (September – November)
The quiet favourite: September highs still in the low 20s °C, beech forests turning in October, fewer visitors. Note the 2026 closures: Pelișor 28 September – 3 November and Peleș 2 November – 1 December.
