Peleș, Bran and Râșnov in One Day: the Castle Route from Brașov, Hour by Hour

The short version

Yes, you can see Peleș, Bran and Râșnov in one day from Brașov — but only on the right day of the week, with an early start and a clear idea of what to skip. The three sites sit on a rough triangle: Peleș to the south in Sinaia, Bran to the south-west, Râșnov between Bran and the city. Done well, it is a superb day of contrasts: a king's palace, a queen's fortress and a peasants' citadel. Done badly, it is a day in traffic.

• Possible only Wednesday to Sunday: Peleș is closed on Monday and Tuesday.
• Not in November 2026: Peleș is closed 2 November – 1 December 2026; Pelișor is closed 28 September – 3 November 2026.
• Driving: roughly 150–170 km in total, three to four hours at the wheel.
• Start: leave Brașov no later than 08:00.

The route at a glance

1. Brașov → Sinaia (about 48 km, an hour or so midweek).
2. Peleș Castle at opening time.
3. Sinaia → Predeal → Râșnov → Bran (roughly 70 km, around 1 h 30).
4. Bran Castle in the afternoon.
5. Râșnov Citadel on the way back, in the late light.
6. Back in Brașov for dinner.

The logic: Peleș has the earliest closing and the strictest calendar, so it goes first; Bran stays open latest, so it goes last among the big two; Râșnov is on the road home.

Hour by hour

07:45 — leave Brașov. Take the DN1 south through Predeal. Midweek this is an easy hour; at weekends, leaving early is the whole game.

09:15 — Peleș. On Thursday to Sunday the castle opens at 09:15 (Wednesday at 10:00), with timed slots and a daily visitor cap. Be at the gate for the first slots. The tour of the ground and first floor takes about an hour. Official tickets, checked September 2026 on peles.ro: adults 100 lei, pensioners 50, students 25. 10:45 — Pelișor, or not. If it is open and you are not tired of gilding, add a quick Pelișor visit (Art Nouveau, Queen Marie's rooms). On a one-day castle marathon, we usually skip it and keep the energy for Bran.

11:15 — optional: Cantacuzino. Cantacuzino Castle in Bușteni is 10 km north, on your way back towards Predeal. It is worth 45 minutes for the terrace view of the Caraiman cliffs — but adding it makes this a four-castle day. Only if you are genuinely enthusiastic.

12:00 — lunch. Eat in Sinaia or Bușteni, or drive on to Râșnov and eat there. Do not leave lunch until Bran, where the village centre around the castle is at its busiest.

12:30 — drive to Bran. From Predeal, the road over to Râșnov avoids central Brașov. Allow around an hour and a half from Sinaia to Bran, more on summer weekends.

14:30 — Bran. By mid-afternoon the morning coach groups have thinned. The castle's last admission is 18:00 from October to March, 19:00 in September and later in August (official hours, checked September 2026). On price, the castle's own page listed 90 lei for adults when we checked in September 2026, while some independent guides quoted more; confirm before you go. 16:30 — Râșnov. Twelve kilometres back towards Brașov. The citadel is under restoration until around 2027: the garden and the Báthory Tower are open, the main enclosure is not, and the ticket (10 lei) is card-only. It is a 30–45 minute stop, best in late light; see our Râșnov guide.

18:00 — Brașov. Back in the old town in time for an aperitif.

If it is Monday or Tuesday, or November

Without Peleș the day becomes gentler, and arguably better.

Monday version: Bran opens only at noon on Mondays. Spend the morning at the UNESCO fortified church of Prejmer (open Monday–Saturday from 09:00; see our Prejmer and Hărman guide), then Bran from 12:00 and Râșnov on the way back. Note that the Libearty bear sanctuary is also closed on Mondays.

Tuesday version: the Libearty bear sanctuary near Zărnești (classic tours at 09:45 and 11:15, Tuesday to Sunday), then Bran after lunch and Râșnov at the end of the day. Read our bear-watching guide first.

November 2026: with Peleș closed from 2 November to 1 December, use either version above — or visit Sinaia for Cantacuzino and the Bucegi instead.

Car, driver or tour?

• Self-drive gives you control over timing, which is what makes this route work. Our getting around guide covers car hire.
• A private driver removes the stress of weekend traffic and parking, and is the most comfortable way to do it.
• Group tours from Brașov often run exactly this route; check that the itinerary really includes the Peleș interior (not just the exterior) and how long you get at each stop.

What we would drop

If time runs short, drop Râșnov first (it is only partly open until the restoration ends), then Pelișor. Never drop Peleș to squeeze in something else on a Wednesday to Sunday: it is the one unmissable interior. Our verdict

One day, three castles: it is ambitious, but it works — on Wednesday to Sunday, outside the November closure, with an 08:00 start and Peleș first. On any other day, swap Peleș for Prejmer or the bears and enjoy a calmer, equally memorable loop.
