Coresi & the station
The former Tractorul works, rebuilt as the Coresi district, plus the railway station: a mall, new apartments, the Qosmo and Kronwell hotels and the city's arrival point.
What it is
North-east of the centre, around the railway station, lies the land of the old Tractorul factory — one of the plants whose workers marched on the party headquarters in the revolt of 15 November 1987. The factory is gone; in its place stands the Coresi district, a new town of apartments, offices, parks and the Coresi Shopping Resort. Around the station, Bulevardul Gării and Bulevardul Victoriei are older and more utilitarian.
What is here
Very little to visit, a lot to use. The sports park is the green space of the new district. The two hotels that matter both sit here: Qosmo, a "smart luxury" hotel of 128 rooms and five suites with the Monark restaurant, and the Kronwell, a design hotel by the station — both newly listed in the Michelin hotel guide in 2026. For coffee, the C R O P roastery and Breakaway; for wine, Le Pressoir. In late summer Oktoberfest Brașov is held on Strada Turnului, near the Tractorul park.
What it is like
New, tidy and car-friendly on the Coresi side; busy and a little tired around the station, where the long modernisation of the terminal is still under way.
Who should stay here
Rail travellers, drivers, and anyone who prefers a large modern hotel with parking and a gym to a historic building with stairs. It also works well for a night before an early train to Bucharest.
The catch
The Old Town is about 3 km away — a 35–40 minute walk or a taxi each time. There is no historic atmosphere, and the station works mean detours on foot.
Compared with the alternatives
This is where Brașov's newest large hotels are, and it is the most car-friendly part of the city: underground parking, wide streets and the shopping centre on the doorstep. If your trip is built around day trips by car — Bran, Prejmer, Sighișoara — that is a genuine advantage over the Old Town, where parking is scarce and a reform may make it more expensive. If your trip is about walking the medieval streets and eating out every night, it is the wrong base, however good the room: every evening begins and ends with a taxi. The station side is also the natural choice for a night before an early train.
Getting there
Gara Brașov is the main station; trains from București Nord take from about 2 h 15 on the fastest services. Autogara 1 is next door. The A1 airport bus starts at the station. See the station.
