The south-east edge of the city: Lake Noua with its boats and forest paths, the Brașov Zoo, the Adventure Park rope course, and Dârste on the road to Predeal.
What it is
Noua is the leafy south-eastern end of Brașov, where the city's houses meet the oak and beech forest below Postăvarul; Dârste runs further out along the DN1 towards Săcele and the Prahova Valley. Brașovenii come here at weekends for the lake and the woods, which makes it the city's family playground.

Lake Noua, with rowing and pedal boats, a path around the water and playgrounds. Beside it, the Brașov Zoo on Strada Brazilor, which also houses a planetarium: adults 35 lei, children from 6 pay 15 lei, under-6s go free; closed on Mondays outside school and public holidays. Next door, the Adventure Park, a rope course strung between the trees. In Dârste, Hanul Domnesc is a large traditional restaurant on the road south; Naked Coffee Roastery roasts nearby.
What it is like
On a sunny Sunday, crowded and cheerful; on a weekday, quiet and green. Away from the lake, it is villa streets and low blocks.
Who should stay here
Families with children, and drivers heading on towards Predeal or Bucharest who want to avoid crossing the city. Grand Hotel, Casa din Noua and Vila Borgo are the options.
The catch
The Old Town is about 5 km away — a bus or taxi each time. The zoo area and Lake Noua are in the proposed "Zone 0" of the parking reform under consultation until 9 October 2026, which would make weekend parking expensive if adopted. Like Răcădău, this side of the city has regular bear warnings.
Compared with the alternatives
For families, Noua is the one part of Brașov where the children's day plans itself: the zoo in the morning, the boats and the rope course in the afternoon, the forest paths when everyone needs space. That is its edge over the Old Town, which has more to see but less room to run. For drivers it has a second advantage: Dârste sits on the DN1, so leaving for Predeal, Sinaia or Bucharest avoids the city traffic entirely. The drawback is the distance from the centre in the evenings, and, in winter, a longer drive to Poiana than from the western side of the city.
Getting there
Buses 17, 21 and 35 run to the "Școala Generală nr. 9" stop by the zoo. By car, follow the signs for Noua from Calea București. See getting around.
