April is when Brașov turns green. The slopes of Tâmpa leaf up, the orchards behind the old houses of Șchei blossom, and the terraces on Strada Republicii open for the season. The weather is genuinely changeable — a warm afternoon can follow a morning of sleet — so pack for both.
It is the ideal month for the castle country. Bran, Râșnov and the fortified church at Prejmer are all open, Prejmer on its longer summer hours from 1 April, the coach tours of July have not arrived, and the drive through the Bârsa countryside is at its greenest. Peleș in Sinaia is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays all year, so plan that day trip for later in the week.
Orthodox Easter moves every year and is the biggest holiday of the Romanian calendar; in 2027 it falls on 2 May, so April 2027 is Easter-free. The town's own celebration, Zilele Brașovului, is tied to the Junii parade on the first Sunday after Easter — expect it around early May in 2027.
What to know
- From 1 April the Black Church keeps its summer hours (to 19:00); so does the fortified church at Prejmer.
- Peleș and Pelișor are closed every Monday and Tuesday.
- Zilele Brașovului 2027 dates are not yet announced; in 2026 they ran 17–19 April, around the Junii parade.
