August is the other half of the high season, and the busiest weeks for the city's hotels. Romanians take their holidays now as well as foreign visitors, and the long weekend around 15 August — the Assumption, a public holiday — is one of the fullest of the year, in Brașov and on every mountain road around it.
The calendar is generous. The Brașov Jazz & Blues Festival brings a free open-air stage to the centre in mid-August; the Teutonic Fest at the fortified church in Hărman fills a weekend with knights and markets; and from late August Oktoberfest Brașov — under licence from Munich — sets up its tents near Parcul Tractorul.
The weather is the most settled of the summer: warm, drier than June and July, with clear evenings. For hiking it is the most reliable month of the year up high, as long as you start early and watch for the afternoon build-up.
